Our quality assurance

VLUHR QA is an internationally recognised quality assurance agency. To guarantee the quality of VLUHR QA's activities, we are committed to clear procedures, the professionalisation of our employees and the structural involvement of stakeholders.

Internationally recognised agency

Every five years, VLUHR QA is evaluated by an external panel of international experts. This peer review serves to renew our membership of ENQA and registration with EQAR. During this process, the functioning and organisation of VLUHR QA is reviewed, specifically with regard to the ESG and EQAR guidelines.

ENQA's website contains an overview of the review procedures that VLUHR QA is going through and has completed. A few relevant reports are listed below:

Clear procedures

VLUHR QA has clear and well documented procedures for the organisation of its activities. These include various manuals, including an appeals and complaints procedure, as well as a code of ethics for panel members. For VLUHR QA staff, these procedures are written out in a roadmap.

Professional staff

The professionalism of our staff is central to our pursuit of high-quality services. VLUHR QA is committed to the further development of its staff members' competences by means of an thorough professionalisation strategy. We monitor national and international evolutions and trends regarding quality assurance (policy) and regularly participate in conferences, study days and networking events.

In order to further guarantee the quality of our operations, one of our staff members acts as a permanent contact person for a project. Another staff member is back-up and follows up on the project. In addition, the VLUHR QA team meets regularly to formally discuss the progress of the various collaborations, evaluate its own performance and learn from each other. As we are a small team, we also consult each other frequently in a more informal way.

Involvement of stakeholders

VLUHR QA frequently consults its stakeholders. For the evaluation of the programme reviews, we work with an annual online survey. This can be supplemented by focus groups with a representation of institutions, programmes and/or panel members if the surveys show that certain aspects need further attention. For the other projects, there is an ad hoc policy to close the quality assurance cycle.

Our stakeholders - the universities, universities of applied sciences and arts and students, as well as the international quality assurance community - are structurally involved in the operations of VLUHR QA. The VLUHR Quality Assurance Board consists of respected quality assurance experts. The Advisory Council includes various stakeholders of the Flemish higher education institutions, supplemented by representatives of the Flemish government and the professional field.
